Elemental

  • The Paragon Gallery 4 Rotunda Terrace, Montpellier Street Cheltenham UK (map)

Paragon Gallery is proud to announce Elemental, an evocative exhibition showcasing the original works of two distinguished landscape artists: Alice Cescatti and Melanie Cormack-Hicks. This exhibition delves into the profound connections between light, colour, and the landscapes that inspire these artists. Join us in the gallery on Saturday 8th November from 10am – 5pm for a glass of wine and to view this superlative collection of paintings. Both artists will be in the gallery from 12 – 3pm where they will be talking to collectors about their work.

Alice Cescatti's distinctive practice employs a rare water-gilding technique, layering silver or gold leaf onto wooden panels using methods dating back to ancient Egyptian tomb paintings. This meticulous process allows her to capture the interplay of light and surface, creating works that shimmer with a dynamic energy. Her pieces often depict expansive skies and tranquil landscapes, evoking a sense of harmony between humanity and nature.

In contrast, Melanie Cormack-Hicks's paintings are imbued with the vibrant energy of the landscapes she cherishes. Inspiration comes from her previous home in the Cotswolds and, following a move, the rolling hills and stunning coastline of Sussex, capturing the changing light and moods of woodlands, meadows, and coastal scenes. Her expressive mark-making and use of colour convey the emotional resonance of these environments, inviting viewers to experience the landscapes through her eyes.

Elemental offers a unique opportunity to experience how two artists interpret the natural world through their distinct mediums and techniques. The exhibition celebrates the profound connections between light, colour, and the landscapes that shape our experiences. The exhibition will run until Saturday 29th November.
