Alice Cescatti

Alice Cescatti is an award-winning artist who has featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, her work held in Public and Private Collections worldwide. Alice creates expressive semi-abstract land and seascapes celebrating the great power and energy of our native environment. Since arriving in England from New Zealand, Alice has exhibited at various galleries in London and Europe including her first Solo Exhibition at the Galerie Siret in Paris in 2004.

Alice’s unique painting process involves a rarely seen craft of water-gilding. She is able to describe light through her understanding of gilding and its tonality, and by studying gilding aging techniques, adding character and depth to her paintings. Alice has undertaken intensive experimentation of mixed media materials to create an alchemic response with silver and gold leaf. Her techniques include adding layer upon layer of texture and colour and then taking away layers by dissolving them with splashes and washes, creating atmosphere within the painting’s subject and surface.

Melanie Cormack-Hicks

Melanie’s paintings speak of colour, energy and light. She paints the landscapes she loves, working from her studio at home in the Cotswolds. Her subject matter includes the majestic woodlands and sweeping meadows that surround her home. Melanie travels widely throughout the year, seeking out the light, atmosphere and colour that inspire her work. From the rugged coasts of Scotland and Cornwall to the tranquil beauty of the Scilly Isles, Devon and Wales, each journey deepens her connection to the landscape and fuels her creative process.

Melanie believes the inherent relationship we all have to the landscape allows her paintings to summon strong emotions.  She strives to create this magical communication between artwork and owner in every one of her pieces. Working en plein air has been formative in shaping Melanie’s style. Whilst working in the landscape the elements can take control. Strong coastal Cornish winds whip ink across a surface, fine Cotswold rain creates accidental marks. These qualities and experiences are then harnessed in her studio work. Melanie has a gift for capturing the emotion we feel whilst in the landscape.
