Clarisa Rakos

BRITISH PAINTER

Clarisa's multilayered paintings draw upon a fascination with the spiritual world. Standing stones, dolmens, moais and menhirs, carvings, rupestrian painting, tattoos and body art, colours and textures...all have influenced her work.

Clarisa is a self-taught British artist based in London, born to a Chilean mother and British father. She grew up in Amsterdam before moving to Chile at the age of 19.

A former professional Irish dancer who went on to teach and choreograph the discipline, she directed one of the largest Irish dance schools in South America and toured both nationally and internationally with several groups and bands.

Clarisa began painting in 2017 upon moving back to the UK while recovering from a dance injury. Her heritage and career background have made the British Isles and the Celtic world one of the key focus points of her work.

Having spent much of her life in Chile, the art of the nation’s indigenous people has also been a key inspiration. Her artwork is abstract and intuitive; most of her paintings are composed of many layers, which are then scraped down before being covered with paint again in order to create an aged and distressed patina, with many different textures and marks.

Clarisa has exhibited at a number of contemporary art fairs and private exhibitions, and her paintings are held in private collections across Europe and the US.
